Product Features & Benefits

  • Removes Transparent & Semi-Transparent Finishes
  • Restores Wood’s Beauty
  • Ready to Use
  • Formulated for All Exterior Wood

DEFY Exterior Wood Stain Stripper is a biodegradable, easy-to-use deck stain remover that will remove weathered, clear, and semi-transparent wood stains and restore the natural beauty of wood surfaces. Stains and varnishes are removed with the collected dirt, mold, mildew and mill glaze.

If you are unsure whether the wood needs to be stripped or just cleaned, test a small, inconspicuous area to determine which method will provide the best results before proceeding. DEFY Exterior Wood Stain Stripper will cover 100-150 sq. ft. per gallon.

Apply a generous amount of the product with a polyester brush, roller, or pump-up sprayer. Then allow it to set for 15 minutes. Once the finish begins to lift, scrub with a stiff bristle brush in the direction of the wood grain. After scrubbing, rinse with large amounts of water in the direction of the wood grain.

Using a pressure washer, though not mandatory, will eliminate the need for scrubbing. However, particular care should be taken with a power washer to avoid damaging the wood. After rinsing, you must neutralize and brighten the wood with DEFY Wood Brightener immediately. If stubborn areas remain, repeat the application in those areas.

I used this product to remove several layers of stain, mostly Olympic semi transparent, that had been applied over the years. When I did my Spring pressure washing last month, the stain was coming up on our walkways and deck. I decided to strip all of the stain and start from scratch.

Since Defy products are not sold in Gadsden, AL I started with paint and varnish stripper from Lowes. It had to brushed on which took a ton of time and it ended up costing around $60 just to do our front walkways. I checked the Defy website and found they made stain stripper that could be sprayed on. I purchased a gallon from a store online. Much less expensive, quicker to apply, and works great. I had to do our back deck twice, and I expected that since it is 20 years old with lots of old stain on it.

I followed the directions from Defy and the YouTube videos. After I stripped the stain, I used Defy Wood Cleaner, Defy Wood Brightener, and Defy Extreme Semi Transparent Stain in Cedar. It was a lot of hard work, but I m so pleased with the end result!!
